Bleadon Still Under Threat

Posted on 7th January, 2020

28 SEP 20: Energy Minister tells anti-fracking MPs to 'accept victory'  but "The moratorium applies to high volume hydraulic fracturing which meets the definition in the Infrastructure Act. It does not cover small-scale fracking, acidisation or exploratory drilling" Drill or Drop article.

________

Bleadon is still under threat ... from Acidisation instead of Fracking!

The government's current "moratorium does not cover acidisation, which is the process being considered by Infinity Energy to be carried out in Bleadon, just south of Weston super Mare, if they can find a landowner who is prepared to accommodate their drilling operation. “The threat of drilling through the fissured limestone cave system, and introducing vast quantities of acid deep into the bedrock of Mendip simply does not bear thinking about” said Dr Richard Lawson, chair of Frack Free North Somerset."

There is a talk at Love's Cafe next Tuesday, 14th January 2020, Weston-Super-Mare by Tina Rothery.

SPEAKER TO HELP RESISTANCE TO CONTINUED THREAT OF “FRACKING” IN NORTH SOMERSET

Frack Free North Somerset are proud and excited to be hosting Tina Rothery to speak at our AGM on Tuesday, 14th January 2020 at Loves Café, Weston-Super-Mare.

Tina Rothery is a prominent national anti-fracking campaigner, who was one of a group that in 2014 occupied a Lancashire field that Cuadrilla wished to drill, risking a fine of £55,000 and 2 weeks in jail. In the end, the case brought against Tina by Cuadrilla was discharged, and the peoples’ resistance to fracking in Lancashire was victorious.

She stood for the Green Party in Tatton in the 2015 General Election and in Fylde, Lancashire in the 2017 General Election.

Tina is a-founder member of the redoubtable group of Lancashire anti-fracking “Nanas”, and has worked as a journalist, a radio presenter and now works as Social Media Consultant to the Green MEP, Gina Dowding.

She is a powerful and inspiring speaker, and Frack Free North Somerset is delighted that she is coming to speak to their AGM, as unconventional oil drilling is still a threat in North Somerset. Although the Government issued a moratorium against fracking at the beginning of the recent General Election campaign, this is widely seen by campaigners as a temporary device to take fracking off the electoral agenda. The moratorium does not cover acidisation, which is the process being considered by Infinity Energy to be carried out in Bleadon, just south of Weston super Mare, if they can find a landowner who is prepared to accommodate their drilling operation. “The threat of drilling through the fissured limestone cave system, and introducing vast quantities of acid deep into the bedrock of Mendip simply does not bear thinking about” said Dr Richard Lawson, chair of Frack Free North Somerset.

The meeting will be at 7:30 pm at Loves Café, 9 West Street, Weston-super-Mare, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1JR
