Policing Award Nominations

Less than four weeks to go to submit your nominations for this year’s Neighbourhood Policing Awards. It is your chance to tell us about the very best of local neighbourhood policing across Avon and Somerset and we want to hear from you! With the deadline for submissions looming, Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens and Acting Chief Constable John Long want you to make sure your local policing teams are in with a chance of picking up an award.

 

One nomination from a local resident in Bristol for this year’s awards reads: “I had been having problems with my neighbour for some time, things got so bad I decided to get the police involved. A resident was heavily drinking, which led to him shouting outside in the street aggressively, smashing bottles and urinating on cars regularly.

 

“Following a call to 101 my local PCSO was quick to get in touch and explain what was happening. I felt nervous about taking action but she was great at reassuring me that they would only proceed in a way I was happy with. I work away a lot and so I missed a number of calls but she always kept in touch and kept me up to date at every stage. She really made me feel that someone was really looking after my case. I’m thrilled to say my neighbour has now been evicted and moved on to a place that can support him better.

 

“I am really pleased this has been resolved positively and I can now once again enjoy where I live. It’s nice to know that ASB is taken seriously by the police as it can make people really unhappy. I thanked my local PCSO personally at a local PACT meeting, but feel she deserves further recognition for her tenacity and commitment to helping me and my neighbours.” 

 

The awards recognise the outstanding work of Neighbourhood Policing teams and individuals in the following categories: Neighbourhood Beat Team of the Year, Neighbourhood Beat Manager of the Year, PCSO (Police Community Support Officer) of the Year, Special Constable of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and the Outstanding Customer Service Award. This year we will also be looking to recognise the work of Police Cadets.

Following this date an independent panel will select winners across the policing areas and an awards ceremony will be held in November.
