Avon & Somerset Police Open Day

Posted on 29th May, 2014

[RINGMASTER COMMUNITY MESSAGING - HEADQUARTERS - A&S 40th Anniversary Open Day]

Dear all,

Avon and Somerset Constabulary is opening its doors to Police Headquarters in Portishead to celebrate its 40th Anniversary.

The free event runs from 10-4pm on Sunday 15th June (a great way to celebrate father's day!). There will be activities for the whole family to enjoy including displays by the mounted team, police dog demonstrations, live music, hot air balloon rides (up to 80' above Police HQ) and much more. Take the opportunity to travel back in time by visiting our re-created 1974 police station and a variety of vintage police vehicles.

Special Guest Phillip Schofield will judge our very own Great British Police Bake Off, a showcase for the hidden culinary talents of police officers and staff from across the force. A fancy dress competition, open to all under 12s attending, will also be judged by Phillip Schofield, with great prizes to be won.

The event forms part of the Avon and Somerset Constabulary's 40th Anniversary celebrations. On 1st April 1974, Bristol Constabulary, Bath and Somerset Constabulary and the Staple Hill division of Gloucestershire Constabulary merged to form Avon and Somerset Constabulary as we know it today.

The HQ site at Portishead was opened by Princess Anne in 1992 and the new headquarters were officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen on 2nd June 1995.
