NO Cold Calling in Bleadon proposal

Hi this is Emma PCSO for the villages.

 

We are considering designating Bleadon as a NO Cold Calling Zone.

 

These are areas where cold callers are discouraged from calling. The scheme is designed to reduce the number of incidents of distraction burglary and rogue trading.

 

Rogue traders are people who tell householders that work needs doing and then charge really high prices, sell poor quality items at high prices or pressure sell.

 

We can designate individual streets or the whole village but need to hear your views.

 

If it is agreed signs would go up in the village stating that cold calling is not allowed.

 

Please feedback to your Neighbourhood watch Co-ordinator who will then liase with me and the Parish Council to discuss the matter further.

I would personally welcome Bleadon becoming a no cold calling zone. I am often here alone and do feel vulnerable if someone strange comes to the door, and always feel slightly suspicious that callers may be checking whether properties are occupied, casing the joint etc. There are many older people in the village who are potentially susceptible to being taken in by dodgy callers, and as someone whose mum is due to move here soon I feel even more strongly about this now.

We would agree wholeheartedly with a No Cold calling zone in Celtic Way, and the village generally.

To all Bleadon NHW Coordinators,

When you have had some response to the proposed no cold calling zone for Bleadon, would you please let me have some idea of how many of your residents are for or against the idea. I will then pass this on to the Police for them to proceed or not.
