Running Event - 6 August 2016

Posted on 15th January, 2016

I am contacting you because on Saturday 6th August 2016 a select group of runners will be taking on a 50, or 30, mile ultramarathon (the Mendip Marauder) on the Mendip Way and they will be passing through your parish on the West Mendip Way. They will be sticking to the footpath at all times

This has been organised with the full support of Mendip Hills AONB and all relevant local organisation, plus we are in contact with relevant local landowners, and we are hoping that it will become a fixture in the local calendar which will get local communities coming out to show their support and will inspire people to get outdoors, get active and to enjoy the wonderful natural surroundings that we have in Somerset. The idea for this event was so that people could see just how spectacular Somerset is and keen endurance runners had a chance to run through a wide selection of its best surroundings in a day, and that the local people of the areas they ran through would have an exciting event to get involved with and to inspire some people to get fitter, even if they don’t want to run 50 miles!

My question for you would be are there any particular considerations you would like us to make when runners are passing through your parish? The field will be fairly spread out due to the length of the route and so there won’t be much in the way of congestion anywhere on the route. There will be a maximum of a few hundred or so runners throughout the day. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. Also, we would love to get local people involved helping out at checkpoints and marshalling along the route – I wonder if there would be a way you could canvass local people to see if anyone would be interested and report back? You can pass on our e-mail addressalbionrunning@hotmail.com to anyone who may be keen. I look forward to hearing from you

Many thanks
