Weston Hospital AE Services Reduced

Posted on 4th July, 2017

UPDATE: 31 JAN 18: Weston A&E closure: Hospital trusts reveal merger plan

-------------

It has been announced that Weston General Hospital’s A&E department would be closed overnight after inspectors deemed the service was ‘not safe’. The hospital’s A&E therefore will be closed between 10pm and 8am from July 4 2017. See related BBC article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-40481177 and the Mercury 29 Jun 17 article re: Hospital board 'committed' to 24/7 emergency care.

John Penrose speaks out

Maternity services are also set to change with Weston General Hospital’s midwives said to be ‘shocked and disappointed’ by plans to alter maternity services in the town in favour of working more with St Michael’s Hospital in Bristol. http://www.thewestonmercury.co.uk/news/changes-ahead-for-weston-super-mare-s-maternity-unit-but-bosses-vow-its-future-remains-secure-1-5086358. Also, the Mercury newspaper article.

Perversely, the Planning Inspector has recommended that NSC allocate land for an additional 2,500 new dwellings in North Somerset, to ensure that a minimum of 20,985 are built by 2026,

In response to Central Government and District Council's housing development policies Bleadon has seen several major developments in and around our village/parish. If WSM is the fastest growing town in Europe why are Central and Local Government controlled services not also being increased to meet this identified and/or imposed demand on our communities, e.g. hospitals, GPs, etc.?

More people surely equates to more accidents waiting to happen.....!
