Does your community need transport for supermarket shops, doctors visits or social outings?

Please allow us to introduce ourselves; we are a local charity called Weston and District Community Transport, we run a service called Dial-A-Ride, it is run by a Board of Trustee’s and local Management Committee.

We are able to provide your community with transport within the Weston-super-Mare area. We operate a door to door mini bus service that operates between the hours of 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. Our minibuses are fully accessible and we can accommodate most manual and electric wheelchairs.

 Weston Wheels

Weston Wheels is in essence just another ‘division’ of Weston and District Community Transport.

Only as such, we do the hospital transport ‘outside’ of Weston area.

We have a ‘separate’ Booking Line into the Offices, which is (01934)  629657.

(Although If you have any ‘problems’, please ring us on (01934) 812305.)

The “Office” line is open 5 days a week, from 09.30. to 12.30.

Please note: We really like, 48 hrs. notice (minimum) for journey.

Weston Wheels was set up in April 2013 to “fill the gap” when it was decided that C.T. could no longer ‘afford’ to provide transport to the Bristol Hospitals with the funding available to us. It has proven to be a great success.

(1st year 145 trips, 2nd year 701, and currently heading for over a thousand for this year.)

Volunteers are always needed, both Drivers and latterly, Co-ordinators, – all ‘part-time’ of course.

We are always happy to talk to anyone, to explain what is needed.

Weston Wheels Drivers are all volunteers, using their own cars, and are ‘joined’ into R.S.V.P. (Retired Senior Volunteer Programme), which does two things. It gives us free access to DBS/CRB checks, (which they are all expected to undergo,) - and it provides free 'Public/Personal liability Insurance' to all our Drivers whenever they are undertaking their ‘roles’. (Their own ‘existing’ Car Insurance provides full cover for any ‘voluntary’ work they may undertake. That is a ‘Standard’ requirement within the Insurance industry.) The only ‘money’ that changes hands is the 45p. per mile (July 2015) that goes straight to the Driver.

In order to be able to give the 'client/customer' a price for any journey when they call us, (wherever in Weston they reside), for simplicity, we have taken the decision to base all ‘journeys’ as starting and finishing at W&DCT’s Offices. This results in us being able to quote £25.00 to the B.R.I. ‘group’, – and £30.00 to Southmead, – all prices (July 2015) are ‘return’ of course. (If the ‘expected’ wait is longer than 2/3 hours, their may be a second journey involved.)

That hopefully broadly explains the Weston Wheels service but for any further questions or information on either using/booking the service or indeed volunteering, please contact  01934 812305
