South Hill circular starting at the village hall car park.

Start at the village hall car park, there's normally plenty of space.
Fairly easy walking for less than a mile.
I'm using bits of the excellent map produced by Peter Lindsay. If you enjoyed your visit to this site then pop in the Post Office and buy one for 35p, all the proceeds are in aid of the village hall.

Across the way is the Church tower, make your way towards it passing the Post Office and stores.

Note the stone cross as you make your way to the Church.

Through the Church yard the footpath veers off to the right between the cottage and the end of the stone wall.

Continue up to the gate, closing it as you make your way up. The gate is cast iron and is not child friendly neither will the dog appreciate its tail being trapped!

The path gets steep just here and is slippery in the wet. The stones under the grass are a particular hazard.
Cross the stile, which again can be slippery (one of the boards is broken at the moment). Dogs can pass under the stile but very big ones will have to jump because of the fencing.

There are a number of options available. One is to keep right on the official footpath, walk over the hill alongside the quarry then down to Bleadon Mill (you pass through another cast iron gate). Or you can keep to the left after crossing the style, and return along the Southern side of the hill where you can either walk back up to the style or continue down to Bleadon Mill and the A370.

The stile and gateway onto Shiplate Road, North side of South Hill. Caution here because the gate is close to the road and traffic cannot be seen very well. Turn right and a few yards on the left is one of the footpaths onto Hellenge Hill.

The style and footpath marker at the East end of South Hill. Straight across Shiplate Road is a footpath onto Hellenge Hill.
