Purn Hill circular from hall car park.

Walk down Bleadon road towards the A370, Purn Hill is immediately in front. The area is now a nature reserve administered by the Avon Wildlife Trust and there is an interesting website about the Purn Hill area.

The footpath starts in the field to the right of the Catherines Inn (you might be hungry and thirsty on the way back!). The Anchor pub is the other side of the A370 and the Queens Arms down in the village centre.

There is a squeeze post now between the gate and wall. Close the gate if you open it and keep dogs under control, livestock is often in the field. Keep to the left of the field and make your way up to the gate above. The lower part of the field can be very soggy after rain.

Cross the stile at the top of the field, close the gate if you open it (usually chained up) There's room under the stile for big dogs to pass. The other side of the stile can also be pretty slippery at times.

You have a choice of going straight up to the top, if you feel fit, or carrying on down the well marked path to the gate at the end.

Look out for grey squirrel, rabbits and badger along the path. Passing through the gate at the end will take you up to the lane where you can turn right into the residential part of Bleadon Hill or turn left down hill onto the A370. A favourite option is to turn back up Purn Hill without passing through the gate and enjoy the wonderful panorama of Brean down, the Quantocks and Brent Knoll.

Looking East, you will have a superb view of Bleadon and the surrounding hills. Cheddar Gorge, Brent Knoll and Glastonbury Tor are all clearly visible from this point.

Purn International caravan/camping site with Brent Knoll in the distance.

On rare occasions the sun don't shine but you can still clearly see Uphill Church and the Welsh coast.

Brean Down, another spectacular and interesting walk, with Steep Holm in mid channel.

Purn Hill is a prime spot for spectacular sunsets over the Devon landscape.
