Further to last night's meeting , when the main contractors were building the sewage works they formulated a traffic management plan, whereby any large delivery vehicles on the A370 were forbidden to turn left by the Anchor. Instead they were directed (by a temporary folding red traffic sign that they had made) to continue to the hospital roundabout and come back and turn right at the Anchor. About an extra couple of miles.
There is no reason why Marshalls could not do something similar, by banning their delivery vehicles from turning left at Bridge Rd Garage and directing them to the roundabout on the A370/A38. This would probably be an 8~10 mile detour, but once word gets round amongst the lorry driving fraternity things will sort themselves out.
This would mean that drivers using the M5 and accessing the Marshalls site from Junction 22 would not be affected.
Drivers using Junction 21 and taking the "shortcut" through Weston may well think it worthwhile to carry on to Junction 22. This would save a lot of through traffic on Winterstoke Rd and the Broadway.
