Hello,
All the entrances to South Hill have proposals for a revised footpath which denies access to members of the public across the field (which we have enjoyed for generations) and uses the road; including the dangerous Shiplate corner instead of the field. I've had a quick look but this doesn't appear to have been discussed by the Parish Council and wondered if you knew how I can go about voicing my disapproval?

I had a quick look at the notice at the top of path from Church, is this the same one you have seen?
Notices have also been posted by NS as The Church Commissioners (who own a lot of the land in Bleadon) have also made a statement on this list also, more information here
Basically, I believe this notice is something landowners need to regularly do to try and stop the public from claiming additional rights of way, Bleadon should ensure that all ways that have been walked by public (not just 1 person) for 20 consecutive years should be registered or 'claimed' with North Somerset as a right of way.
I have forms to claim under the wildlife and countryside act for South Hill but have not yet delivered them to those willing to complete one. I will also research a little more and get back to you.

Hi,
The word deposit was a little confusing on these applications as it does seem that the landowner is once again looking for an amendment to the footpaths. In essence, he is looking at keeping walkers to the outside of the field and where possible, roadways.
I feel that it is a shame as one of the attractions of living in Bleadon is the amount of walking available and the views walking along the spine of South Hill are second to none. All of which, if the new pathways are adopted would be out of bounds. The proposal to divert the footpath from the field to the main road on Shiplate is particularly sad as this is a dangerous road with no footpath.
Would appreciate anything that you are able to discover, especially if we are able to voice our opposition to these changes. It just doesn't seem fair that someone can come along, buy the land knowing full well that these footpaths are established and well used and change them a short while later.

Forms have to be completed and submitted to NS. If you feel up for this I can help and in the first instance contact NS for forms and guidance

As far as I can currently tell from this NS webpage. This is a Commons Act Section 15 statement to end use of SH as common land/village green but perhaps not footpaths (that is Highways Act Section 31 see previous email links).
Here is an explanation of the current process this page includes guidance on a successful claim and the work required.
Apparently, 'you' have a year to find evidence to disagree and register disagreement, much the same as claiming for 'new' footpaths before 2026 see here. Forms have to be completed and submitted to NS.
If you feel up for trying this? In the first instance contact NS for forms and guidance. We can also then help and probably the same people who have said to me they will complete footpath claim forms (mostly dog walkers) will also do the 'common land' as well.

Hi Chris, Thank you for such a comprehensive reply I doubt I would have found all this by myself and yes, I am certainly up for wanting to oppose this change.
We have enjoyed almost daily walks across South Hill and have left nothing but footprints and memories so any guidance you can give would once again be appreciated.
